Description: 

In the midst of further casino developments, we are confronted with a potential increase in cases of gambling disorder.   Mental health professionals should be prepared with the latest evidenced based interventions to treat this disorder.   During this interactive training, attendees will get an overview of the psychological issues experienced by problems gamblers.  Two evidenced based interventions, Metacognitive therapy and mindfulness, for the treatment of problem gambling will be discussed.  Emphasis will be given to their role and integration in the treatment process when working with problem gamblers presenting with co- morbid disorders.  

Learning objectives 

  • Describe the role that metacognitions play in problem gambling. 
  • Summarize the use of Metacognitive Therapy to treat problem gambling. 
  • Describe how mindfulness can be integrated in the treatment of problem gambling.
