Boston – The Massachusetts Partnership on Responsible Gambling (MPRG) is responding to the needs of surrounding communities by calling for food donations to local surrounding community food pantries.
May 5th, #GivingTuesdayNow, is a new global day of giving and unity – in addition to the regularly scheduled Dec 1, 2020 #GivingTuesday – as an emergency response to the unprecedented need caused by COVID-19.
“MPRG seeks to draw awareness and inspire action to the increased stress our local food pantries are experiencing during this time. More than 46 million Americans – including 12 million children – are served by food banks every year – but over the past couple months, we know there’s been an increased need,” said Lance George, Vice President and General Manager of Plainridge Park Casino and member of the MPRG.
“The day is designed to drive an influx of generosity, citizen engagement, business and philanthropy activation, and support for communities and nonprofits around the world,” said Marlene Warner, Executive Director of The Massachusetts Council on Gaming and Health. “We’re asking for individuals to donate food to their local food pantry. If they can’t make it out, and would rather contribute financially, they can do so on our website. Every dollar will go to area food pantries.”
MPRG is a membership program of The Massachusetts Council on Gaming and Health (MCCG). MPRG is committed to ongoing efforts that will organize and harness the collaborative power of individuals, nonprofit organizations, and corporate entities to gather to help those that choose to game and gamble in the Commonwealth and the region to keep their activities and behavior safe and entertaining.
“We’re happy to participate in Giving Tuesday. We know the need to support local food pantries is always there, but we know the need is much greater now,” Warner said.
“We’re a global community and this is an opportunity to support one another. Even small contributions add up and can go a long way to a family in need,” Warner continued.
