Reading, MA – The Massachusetts Council on Gaming and Health (Mass. Council) announces the appointment of a new member to its Board of Directors.

Joining the board is David Monahan, of Reading, Massachusetts. “David is seasoned in the area of advocacy and brings a wealth of knowledge in consumer protections to the Board,” says Marlene Warner, Executive Director of the Mass. Council. “Having him part of the team brings the Council added value as we work diligently to help those in the Commonwealth experiencing problems with gambling.”

Monahan currently serves as Campaign Manager for the Campaign for a Commercial-Free Childhood (CCFC) and is responsible for devising and implementing campaigns for the organization. CCFC is the leading nonprofit organization committed to helping children thrive in an increasingly commercialized, screen-obsessed culture, and the only organization dedicated to ending marketing to children.

David previously worked for 15 years as an Assistant Attorney General in the Consumer Protection Division of the Massachusetts Office of the Attorney General, and handled enforcement actions to address unfair and deceptive business practices. He previously served as Prosecuting Counsel for the Massachusetts Division of Professional Licensure, and as a member of the adjunct faculty at New England Law Boston.

Founded in 1983, the Mass. Council has been instrumental in bringing the issue of gambling disorder to the attention of the public and policymakers. With the gambling landscape evolving and expanding, the Mass. Council has continued to play a leading role in protecting and educating the public.

“I am passionate about protecting children from the inappropriate influence of corporate marketing,” says Monahan.  “As online gambling, video games that encourage wagering and betting, sports betting, and E-sports continue to expand, it’s vital youth are protected from predatory marketing practices. I’m looking forward to the opportunity to make a difference for those residing in the Commonwealth.”

Monahan received his Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree at Albany Law School, Union University, Albany, New York. He also serves on the board of Northeast Legal Aid.
